Which Route Is Right for You?
Experienced Operators
If you already hold a recognised operator card (NPORS, CPCS or equivalent) or have significant hands-on experience on the machine, you can go straight for the Experienced Worker route — no formal training course required.
- Book onto the NPORS Experienced Worker Test
- Provide evidence of 2-years experience
- Pass the theory and practical assessment
- Receive your NPORS Experienced/Refresher card (valid 5 years)
Novice Operators
If you’re new to the machine and don’t yet hold a recognised operator card, you’ll need to complete a full NPORS Novice course before you can operate independently on site.
- Book onto a full NPORS Novice training course
- Complete the theory training and hands-on practical instruction
- Pass the theory and practical test
- Receive your NPORS Novice card (valid 1 year, until you move onto Experienced status)
